Does your vitamin D contain what the label says?
Researchers tested 55 bottles of vitamin D from 12 makers. Pills held anywhere from 9% to 146% of the labeled dose, and only about half landed in the accepted range. The one bottle with a third-party verification seal was more accurate.

10 billion CFU, but 10 billion when?
Probiotics are live bacteria, and some die off on the shelf, faster with heat, moisture and time. "At time of manufacture" can mean far fewer by the time you take it. The honest label says "at end of shelf life" or "through expiration".

What a "proprietary blend" hides
US rules let a blend list only its total weight and its ingredients in order, not how much of each. A 500 mg blend could be mostly one cheap ingredient with sprinkles of the rest. Choose labels that show every amount and compare them with research doses.

Does your gummy contain what the label says?
A 2023 JAMA study tested 25 melatonin gummies. Only three were within 10% of the label; the rest ranged from about 74% to more than three times the dose, and one had no melatonin at all. Look for USP or NSF seals and brands that share test results.

Is your fish oil still fresh?
In one study of 32 fish oils, fewer than one in ten met every recommended freshness limit, though other tests found far fewer problems. Omega-3 fats go rancid with air, heat and light. Pick brands that share freshness tests, check the date, and keep it cool and closed.

Is there lead in your protein powder?
In a 2025 test of 23 protein products, more than two-thirds went over a strict daily lead limit, and plant-based powders averaged about nine times more than whey. One scoop is not an emergency. Choose third-party tested powders and mix your protein sources.
